Computer Art

Not computer generated art, but art I did!

Hah! I bet you were expecting me to have to be posting about computer-generated art, not art I’ve created with a computer as the subject!

This is the one piece of art I still have, and one of the few that I’m actually proud of, for all it’s imperfections. For the most part I have preferred creating technology, or sometimes using technology to enable creativity. I usually find art frustrating because I ’try to hard’, and tend to get stressed with how it’s not looking as I wish.

This particular piece was an exception to that, and recently the Midland Public Library Makerplace hosted guest presenter Hilary Slater who showed us some interesting things with watercolour. The opportunity to ask questions was great and I learned things one normally doesn’t about art, and especially watercolours. I’m fascinated by the idea of water-on-water watercolour being about ’letting go’ and ‘giving up control’ (quite a bit), and think it might be fun to try that type of art. Even if I don’t expect to create great art, I could use the practise in the ‘courage to give up control’ as Hilary expresses the mindset for creating watercolour art. It’s an interesting concept, and one I am curious to try.

I think one of the reasons art is important is that is part of what enables us to ‘keep going’. There is a time for ‘serious’ art, and there is a time for art that is for making us happy, and all kinds of stuff in between. I hope I can have some fun creating some ’neat’ things that make me happy in the near future. (Ok, so I like doing that with tech too, but this is in a different way and has a different ‘feel’).

Something like the following would be really cool to be paint well enough that I was happy I was able to get ‘close for a beginner’.
